Fifteen seconds is the same length as an Instagram video.
The video ad feature a big bet for Facebook. Apple, for instance, once attempted to charge $1 million for an ad in its iAd mobile system but was forced to gradually draw down the price when clients balked.

Business Insider founder and CEO Henry Blodget buys a newspaper — yes, really — Tech News and Analysis
Henry Blodget, the co-founder and CEO of Business Insider, has a habit of writing posts on his site about his personal experiences with various ephemera of daily life, such as flying economy class. The latest instalment is about buying a newspaper —not a newspaper company, but an actual printed newspaper. Why? Because he needed some local news about Nantucket Island, apparently.

British GQ Puts One Direction on Cover, One Direction Fans Get Very Mad - FishbowlNY
British GQ just unveiled their September issue, featuring the members of the very talented and not at all flash in the pan boy band, One Direction. The reaction from their fans, called “Directioners” (yes we’re serious), has been instense. And not in a good way.
The tweets have come fast and furious, with most upset about Harry Style’s cover, which calls him “Up all night to get lucky.” The Directioners didn’t like that at all, and so they unleashed their preteen angst upon GQ and GQstaffers. Here’s a roundup of some of the best reactions.

OWN Turns Profit Ahead of Schedule | Media - Advertising Age
After very public early troubles, the Oprah Winfrey Network turned a profit in the most recent quarter, earlier than recent expectations, part owner Discovery Communications' said today as it reported second-quarter earnings.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav said ratings success combined with significant advertising growth to move OWN into the black earlier than anticipated. The network signed over 30 new advertisers during upfront negotiations for the upcoming TV season, he told analysts during a conference call to discuss Discovery's results. And its recent deals for commercial time in the so-called scatter market have yielded ad prices at least 10% above the 2012 upfront, he said.

Anthony Weiner's Dirty Business Reveals The Sad State Of Sanitized Sex | Bianca Bosker
Most political sex scandals follow a predictable narrative: An illicit sexual encounter is followed by exposé, and then the inevitable apology and atonement.
From what we know about Anthony Weiner's transgressions, the mayoral candidate deviated from these stages in one key way: With copious use of the web, he appears to have satisfied his urges without actually having sex. The X-rated photos and explicit messages he exchanged with young women online don't appear to be a means to an end -- no prelude to trysts in seedy hotel rooms or parked cars (offers of apartments aside) -- but rather, theywere the end.
Thanks to technology, it's a sex scandal without any sex. Anthony Weiner's Dirty Business Reveals The Sad State Of Sanitized Sex | Bianca Bosker:
9 Publicity Stunts That Went Horribly Wrong - Business Insider
When bizarre tweets started emanating from Chipotle's Twitter handle Tuesday — like, "twitter Find avocado store in Arv" — the public thought that it had been hacked. This theory gained traction after Chipotle later tweeted "Sorry all. We had a little problem with our account. But everything is back on track now! - Joe."
Then Chipotle admitted to Mashable that it was a publicity stunt to gain more attention and followers for its 20th anniversary. Chipotle usually gets 250 new followers a day, but during the stunt it gained 4,000 followers.
While the fake hacking was strange and jeopardized consumer trust, it wasn't a PR disaster of epic proportions.
We've collected a list of some marketing stunts that went horribly wrong.
9 Publicity Stunts That Went Horribly Wrong - Business Insider:BBC Sport - Test cricket: Does the oldest form of the game have a future?
It might seem odd to be contemplating the future of Test cricket in the middle of a sold-out Ashes summer.
But the undimmed appeal of five-day contests between England and Australia only highlights the wider problem in other countries.
In India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand - and even to a certain extent Australia - crowds for Test matches are falling. Set against thegrowing popularity of Twenty20 cricket (particularly in India and Australia) there are concerns at the highest levels of the game that its most traditional format could die out.
For The Editors, a BBC programme which sets out to ask challenging questions, I decided to find out whether Test cricket, the longest and oldest form of the game, has a future.

BBC Sport - Solving the mystery of the first goal in league football
There it was, high on the left-hand side of a crowded page of the Midland Evening News from 7 September, 1888.
It was the advert that appeared to prove who scored the first goal in league football, anywhere in the world.
Not quite the Rosetta Stone , but to Boyling and his friend Mark Metcalf it was a source of huge satisfaction.
There has always been debate as to who scored first when the Football League started with five fixtures on 8 September, 1888.
Some claim the honour belongs to Preston striker Fred Dewhurst, who struck after three minutes of his team's match against Burnley at Deepdale.

Even Weiner's wedding was a scandal | The Daily Caller
Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group.
Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding.
The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all accommodations, clothing and extras. Neither Weiner nor Abedin had the resources to pay for the ultra-expensive wedding, yet neither recorded gifts on their Financial Disclosure Reports for that year. Progress! An app that sends a breakup text for you | Technically Incorrect - CNET News
It's so tiresome when you've had enough of your lover, isn't it?
You have to make up some reason why you don't want to be with them anymore. Then you have to decide how to deliver the news.
Do you at least face them in person, look into their eyes and watch the hurt course right through them?
Or are you the modern type who just sends a text and has done with it?

Usurping Cristiano Ronaldo would be final step in Gareth Bale evolution | Football | The Guardian
Arsène Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson may not be soulmates but they share a key regret. Both men thought long and hard about signing the teenage Gareth Bale from Southampton but, ultimately, Wenger believed Arsenal could do without the Welshman while Ferguson suspected he was being asked to part with too much of Manchester United's money and said "no deal".
The then left-back ended up at Tottenham and, six years on, is the subject of a hitherto firmly resisted £86m bid from Real Madrid. If the price is deemed right by Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman and a consummate negotiator, Bale, whose feet are itchy, would become the subject of the world's most expensive football transfer. Meanwhile Wenger and Ferguson can only rue their failure to second guess the 24-year-old's metamorphosis from full-back to left-winger to marauding attacking free spirit. Leaked: Secret Tape of Kanye West Ranting About Taylor Swift, Racism
Gawker has obtained audio of an alleged Kanye West erratically justifying his interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards ("Because I wrote my ['Run This Town'] verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé"), ranting about not being asked to perform at the ceremony over Pink, and claiming that his mother, Donda West, "died for this fame shit."
The audio supposedly was recorded secretly while West was at dinner with friends after leaving Radio City Music Hall on the night of the 2009 VMAs (September 13, 2009). Our tipster tells us that West shared a table with other musicians (none of whom are easily identifiable in the audio above) at the Corner Bistro in New York's West Village. The salvageable audio is above, and a full transcript below.

Former NFL Players Are Turning to Digital Startups | Adweek
When injuries permanently sidelined National Football League offensive guard Mike Wahle a few years ago, like all retiring pro athletes, he had to ask himself, “What’s next?” And while some guys might have rested on their laurels, the 6-foot-6-inch former all-pro got a master’s degree from London Business School before dedicating himself to founding a social platform called Crowd Cam, which will go live before the upcoming football season.
While former athletes have always looked to television and radio for second careers, Wahle represents a growing breed of ex-NFLers taking aim at digital media. Wahle’s Crowd Cam offers athletes, coaches and teams free profile pages that aggregate their content from social nets such as Twitter and Instagram while giving obsessed fans a single stop to keep tabs on the musings of their sports favorites.
“The best thing about sports is storylines,” Wahle said. “Every week of an NFL season is like a chapter in a book. We’ve created an environment where people can both interact during the lead-up to the games as well as their aftermath.” Former NFL Players Are Turning to Digital Startups | Adweek:
Chima Iheke: Has the West fortified the moral right to plead Africa’s cause? - DailyPost Nigeria - DailyPost Nigeria
It has become very fashionable lately, especially among Western print media to rail against China’s forays into Africa. China, among other things has been accused of a new form of colonization.
In 2010, a senior US official, Johnnie Carson, addressing an audience in Lagos, described China as ” a very aggressive and pernicious economic competitor with no morals”.
Since the media are essentially mouth pieces for their respective governments, it seems a case of a jealous lover castigating and casting aspersions on a rival. What is troubling though, is prominent African leaders especially those we admire and whose opinion we value greatly, Jacob Zuma, the President of South Africa for his work and sacrifices during Apartheid and Lamido Sanusi the Governor of The Central Bank of Nigeria for his work in sanitizing the banking sector in Nigeria among others singing the chorus without substantiating what it is that China has done that smacks of re-colonization.
When one is raising an alarm, it never sits well in the absence of a cause. Chima Iheke: Has the West fortified the moral right to plead Africa’s cause? - DailyPost Nigeria - DailyPost Nigeria:
Comic-Con Is No Longer Just a Nerd Fest | Adweek
Meanwhile, in San Diego, something unusual is afoot! Who are these strangers walking the halls of Comic-Con? Not the 150,000 comic book collectors, sci-fi movie completists and nerdy super-fans dressed as Catwoman or Zed from Zardoz (Google it, we dare you)—they’re the ones who’ve been coming for decades now. We’re talking about the suits (whose admins did the research that told them what to wear so they don’t stick out too much)—TV programming execs, CMOs, even showrunners.
Ask any of the suits why they’re there and they will likely repeat the same phrase: “We are going to San Diego to thank the fans.” Sure you are. Publicly traded corporations rarely spend gobs of money just to say “thank you.” Rarer still do they fly across the country at significant cost to a conference jam-packed with fantasy superfans. So Adweek got in touch with a network of professionals to get to the bottom of their attendance at Comic-Con, and here’s what our heroes said. Comic-Con Is No Longer Just a Nerd Fest | Adweek:
